Leading boutique lifestyle PR and marketing firm, Bay Bird Inc, has an immediate opening for a full-time Junior Publicist position in our San Diego, California office. This exceptional communications rockstar will be responsible for assisting our culinary team members on a range of exciting lifestyle accounts with a concentrated focus on our award-winning restaurant client portfolio.

Junior Publicist, San Diego

Responsibilities will likely include:

  • Assisting with assigned culinary accounts and serving as a liaison between the media and client.

  • Participating in team brainstorms and providing recommendations for communications strategies.

  • Working directly with media contacts in print, broadcast and online to help fulfill requests for client information and images.

  • Helping to inform targeted media of new client developments via creative pitch angles, press releases and media alerts.

  • Helping to schedule and facilitate interviews and press opportunities for clients.

  • Maintaining accurate media lists and tracking press coverage for monthly reporting.

  • Developing first drafts of press releases, pitches and internal supporting documents.

  • Creating compelling social media content, both from a verbal as well as an image perspective.

  • Assisting with the management of our company internship program.

Qualifications:

Our ideal candidate should be an extremely creative, pro-active PR professional with a proven track record of assisting with all facets of lifestyle public relations and will possess all of the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience beyond internships working with clients in the culinary/restaurant, craft beverage, health/wellness, sustainable agriculture advocacy, and consumer lifestyle arenas – either with an agency or in-house position.

  • A deep passion and understanding of food and the inherent culture of food.

  • An outstanding grasp of the written and spoken word.

  • Experience working directly with media on a local, regional and national level (producers, bloggers, editors, freelance writers and reporters).

  • Must be a strong communicator, able to support story angles with relevant, engaging pitch material, including tying in story lines with select social media platforms that will be managed in-house.

  • Able to develop social media content to correspond with a client’s in-house sales and brand messaging.

  • The candidate must be an excellent storyteller throughout every online and offline engagement opportunity.

  • Possess a vibrant personality and be inherently clued into the trends and culture of now - a rockstarThis team member will support the Publicist, Team Manager, Director and President of the company, and will also help to oversee our internship program.
