Bay Bird Now Hiring: Publicist

Leading boutique lifestyle PR firm, Bay Bird Inc, is now accepting resumes from interested candidates for a full-time Publicist position in our San Diego, California office. This exceptional communications rockstar will be responsible for assisting in the leadership of our culinary team on a range of exciting lifestyle accounts, with a concentrated focus on our restaurant client portfolio.

This mid-level position requires a minimum of 3-4 years of relevant experience working in a lifestyle public relations agency or related environment. The Publicist position both supports the individual PR team with various administrative tasks and in the development and execution of PR plans and strategies, but also assists with the overall management of the client portfolio. This team member will support the Senior Publicist, Team Manager, Director and President of the company, and will also help to oversee junior level staff and interns.

Now Hiring Publicist

Our next ‘bird’:

Is a thought leader in ideation and creativity

Manages and assists with team accounts and helps to oversee junior level staff and interns

Oversees the research and maintenance of calendars (editorial, events, etc.) and media lists

Oversees general administrative and clerical duties

Schedules and participates in brainstorming and planning sessions

Manages accounts and liaises with clients via email, phone and in person

Attends and contributes to client calls and face-to-face meetings, preparing the necessary support materials for each interaction

Proactive in developing and nurturing strong relationships with media and influencers across all levels

Assists in/oversees the organization and execution of client events, launch campaigns, digital marketing initiatives, etc.

Assists in/oversees the creation of all client communications pieces including: press releases, bios, backgrounders, newsletters, fact sheets, media advisories, taglines, activity reports, etc.

Conducts research to support PR planning

Assists with/oversees the drafting and distribution of content such as newsletters, press releases, social media calendars

Oversees and/or edits videos and presentations and assists with light graphic design projects

Ensures that all media copy is proofread and vetted before it is released

Comfortable navigating social media channels and understands best practices and trends

Assists with and/or oversees the creation of creative social media content and schedules accordingly

Captures compelling imagery to be utilized on clients’ social media feeds

Creates compelling pitch angles and/or supplied pitches to targeted media with the goal of securing robust coverage

Assists in tracking media coverage and other PR metrics

Utilizes client and internal task management software as needed and is proactive in identifying innovation

Manages time appropriately and knows how to prioritize action items accordingly – adept at toggling back and forth

Invents ways to streamline communication and plan execution

Assists with overseeing the internship program: interviewing, hiring, training and making sure that supporting intern documents are kept up-to-date

Is punctual, adheres to deadlines, manages time appropriately and knows how to prioritize action items accordingly

Has a deep passion and understanding of food and the inherent culture of food

Possesses an outstanding grasp of the written and spoken word

Proven experience working directly with media on a local, regional and national level (producers, bloggers, editors, freelance writers and reporters)

Must be a strong communicator, able to support story angles with relevant, engaging pitch material, including tying in story lines with select social media platforms that will be managed in-house

Able to develop social media content to correspond with a client’s in-house sales and brand messaging

The candidate must be an excellent storyteller throughout every online and offline engagement opportunity

Be intuitive and measured

Possess a vibrant personality and be inherently clued into the trends and culture of now – a rockstar

Links We Love #LWL | Volume 1

Here in the ‘nest’ we spend a lot of time on our computers. You could say almost obsessively. But it comes with the job and we’re always interested and eager to stay on top of what’s happening now—in California and beyond.

That being said, we like to press pause to check in on things that aren’t *necessarily* work-related or have anything to do whatsoever with the current political climate.

1: Kate Cadbury creates works of art out of pressed flowers, even more impressive she grows her supplies (flowers that is) in her backyard in England. We’re dreaming about these little creations.

2: This five part documentary series showcases the faces and skilled hands behind both the gourmet and casual plates of Los Angeles’ culinary scene. The series focuses on a handful of Middle Eastern, Mexican, Guatemalan, Filipino and Korean cooks who are first or second generation immigrants making a name for their culture’s food in a unique way and style.

3: Few things get us more stoked than hearing about women kicking ass in their career and Daniella Zalcman, a documentary photographer, is one of those women. This piece from Wired gives us a look into the world of women in photojournalism.

4: Wesley Morris and Jenna Wortham host Still Processing, a New York Times pop culture podcast that has our head bird and president, Peyton wishing everyday was Thursday. The duo chats about how race and culture intertwine with current events in today’s crazy world.

5: Our love for Lena Dunham has come to an all-time high after watching this video. She gives a tour of her eclectic home as she answers some of Vogue’s most pressing questions. She also makes us laugh at the same time – classic Lena.

6: Once again, National Geographic takes us around the world. This time they interviewed a variety of nine-year-olds from four different continents to get their varying views on gender, their futures and what they would do to change the world.
